You’re on a journey to lose weight and have more energy. It’s only been a month but your goals seem miles away. After all, this isn’t just a quick fix to losing those unwanted pounds that have piled up over the year. This is a complete overhaul of your lifestyle – from your daily physical activities all the way to your meal plans. And we both know this could take a long time.

“Once I lose the weight and inches, I’m going to look so good in that dress.”

“I’m going to wear that top and skirt when my waist is more defined.”

If your line of thinking is this way, stop. You can look fabulous even while you’re still working on those goals.
In today’s interview with Ginger Burr of Total Image Consultants she teaches you how to go from frumpy to fabulous in 5 easy steps.  There are tips tricks, tools and systems that you can learn to put a great wardrobe together.

Fashion, personal presence, how you pull together a wardrobe, how you want yourself to be perceived is personal. Everyone has a different perception on what looks good. And if anyone knows how to do this, it’s Ginger.

For 31 years, Ginger Burr, President of Total Image Consultants, has helped women around the world create a wardrobe they love by connecting with their inner essence. She has been interviewed by Worth Magazine, Forbes Magazine and Bloomberg Business Week and was chosen as one of VegNews Magazine’s ’25 Most Fascinating Vegetarians’ for her innovative and groundbreaking work as a vegan image consultant.  She is also the author of the book That’s So You! Create a look you love with beauty, style and grace.

Below is an outline of what Ginger teaches us during this interview I had with her live on my Facebook Page.  To experience all that Ginger taught us, watch the video below.

Step 1: Stop settling for good enough

  1. Choose clothes that feed your soul, don't settle for "good enough".
  2. Don't give up. Changes in the body caused by undergoing menopause or weight loss, sometimes causes most women to be confused and at a loss on how to dress their new body. As a result, they just put on what’s easiest.  You can learn how to work with your new shape.
  3. Allow yourselves to dream. What will it be like to have a wardrobe you totally love?

Step 2: 3 Ways to create a wardrobe you love

Getting approval from others
  1. We turn to our friends, mother or daughter because we’re not confident with what we like and how we look on certain clothes. We get confusing answers and we go back to settling for just good enough.
  2. Be careful with getting approval from others. What they like may be different from what you like. What they like on you may actually mean what they like on themselves.

Expecting to find clothes that fit perfectly off the rack
  1. Don’t beat yourself up when most of the clothes off the rack don’t fit you perfectly. This has nothing to do with your body.
  2. Be willing to tweak or alter things instead of searching for the perfect clothes with the perfect fit. It would also be a good idea to have a great reputable tailor. Ask for referrals from friends or you can ask a store or boutique manager.

Shopping in the same place and expecting different results
Most women go to the same store to shop for clothes. Changes in lifestyle and in their bodies are inevitable. Again, don’t fret because this doesn’t reflect on your body. It means you just need to look for another store that can accommodate the new you!

Step 4: Great fit is extremely important

If you want to go from frumpy to fabulous, fit is essential. Whether you’re shopping at Cole’s or buying Armani, clothes have to fit you beautifully. Be willing to have something tailored or leave it at the store if it doesn’t fit.

Step 5: Color can make all the difference

  1. Take a look at your closet. What colors are in there, besides black, that make you feel awesome? Which ones make you think you shouldn’t have bought those shades or hues?
  2. There are a few colors that are tricky to wear. These are yellow, orange, beige and gray. Unless you’re absolutely sure these colors look good on you, avoid these. Everyone can wear beige but if it’s the wrong shade on you, it can make you disappear. Light gray is so hard to wear because it washes everyone out.
  3. One color everyone can wear? Teal!

Let your Inner Beauty shine through.

Reflect on who you are and let your clothes reflect this. Are you simple yet classy, artsy and bohemian, casual and rugged? You’re always going to feel frumpy – even if everyone else says you look amazing – when you’re not expressing yourself in a way that is authentic.
