The weight loss journey is an uphill battle for most of us. Bottom line is that we need to eat right and regularly be active. We also know that we need to have strategies and systems in place to achieve the right eating habits, and to be motivated enough to do our daily workouts. Keeping a food diary, having an accountability partner, Sunday preps, etc. - all these are systems most of us use. But what if there were other methods that could help actually make weight loss easier and well - more bearable? Jennifer Sutton, M.B.A., is the creator of multiple leading-edge programs focused on combining mindset work, brain training, and tapping to help individuals and organizations reach their highest potential. She is a Certified Infinite Possibilities Trainer, long time EFT tapping practitioner, and founder of the Results-Oriented Inquiry (ROI) Process, the SAFE You Series, the Fall Safe! Happy Landings Program, and Quantum Shift What If cards. Her mission is to help people feel strong and purposeful being who they are now, becoming who they most want to be, and doing what they most want to do. In this interview, she talks about how we can use other methods that can help us achieve weight loss faster and easier. USING EFT OR EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE FOR WEIGHT LOSSDecision Fatigue Have you heard of decision fatigue? In psychology, decision fatigue refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision making. One of the effects once decision fatigue sets in is weakened self-regulation and this may be the reason you can’t lose weight. This means that the more decisions you must make throughout the day, the weaker your decision-making process will become—even more-so when faced with making healthy choices. Do you crave a lovely green salad after a stressful meeting? An average person definitely won’t, but if you have a clear head, you’re likely to skip whatever salty, sugary, fatty stress relief might be waiting for you in the break room. EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique, more commonly known as tapping, can help you with decision fatigue. According to Jennifer, tapping helps you get back down to a place of peace and power, and get you to Ground Zero in decision making. Limiting Beliefs and Emotional Blocks Vital to any weight loss is recognizing the limiting belief or in EFT terms – the emotional block – that’s keeping you at the current weight you’re in. These can be from simpler beliefs like “I don’t have the time,” or “My family needs me in the evening so I can’t go to my Zumba class,” to more traumatic ones such as a loss of an unborn child. People who want to lose weight should resolve their limiting beliefs or emotional blocks before they start thinking about the food they need to eat or the exercise they need to do. EFT: What It Is And How It Works EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over 5,000 years, but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem — whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. — and voice positive affirmations. This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the "short-circuit" — the emotional block — from your body's bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance, which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease. You don’t have to study EFT to be able to do this on your own. You can sign up for a one-off session with Jennifer just to get you started or you can check out tapping videos readily available in the Internet. Jennifer’s personal favorite however is The Tapping Solutions app. RESULTS-ORIENTED INQUIRY AND QUANTUM SHIFT WHAT-IF CARDS TO CHALLENGE LIMITING BELIEFSMany of the questions we normally ask ourselves essentially keep us stuck because our brains tell us we already know the answer so we ignore exploring certain issues and situations any further. The Results-Oriented Inquiry program Jennifer has created works to break that same in-same out-cycle by prompting individuals to ask themselves the right questions in order to get new results, new answers. And she focuses on doing it in a fun way – by using her What-if cards! Quantum Shift What If” Cards help open your brain to feeling better immediately while also triggering your brain to filter information differently so you start getting new inputs. And this is extremely important when you have limiting beliefs that weigh you down – no pun intended! Are you stuck in a repeating pattern that you know is not working, but you don’t know how to shift out of it? Using Jennifer’s What-if cards is a gentle, simple way to create new solutions in your life. Once you instill doubt to a core belief by using a What-if card, you start creating new thoughts.
